Government and politics have always been a passion of Tanya's, who earned her B.A. in Political Science from West Virginia University. In the aftermath of the 2016 election, Tanya realized it was time to channel this passion, lean into the strong network she'd built volunteering throughout the community for over a decade, and run for local office herself:

“In the wake of the 2016 election, I felt moved to get more involved in our local government. As I researched opportunities and spoke with leaders throughout the community, it became evident that the Montgomery Township Board of Supervisors was where there was both a need and a solid fit for my background and experience.”

In her leadership role on the Board of Supervisors, Tanya strives to be a voice for every citizen of the municipality: “One of my proudest accomplishments to date has been passing an ordinance establishing a Human Relations Commission to ensure that the rights of all people residing, working, or recreating within the township are protected, regardless of their race, age, religion, gender, or gender expression.”

Other points of pride during Tanya’s tenure on the Board of Supervisors include:

  • Provided effective financial oversight, ensured Township maintained its AAA bond rating, and increased visibility into Township finances with publication of the first PAFR report

  • Facilitated the Township’s first virtual Town Halls on critical issues, including COVID-19 and Use of Force & Police Training Policies for the MTPD

  • Implemented Healthy Lungs at Play Program banning smoking and vaping at township parks

  • Improved pedestrian access and safety with new sidewalks and crosswalks

  • Improved accessibility to meetings with the upgrade of the AV equipment to enable meetings to be live-streamed online with real time closed-captioning

  • Expanded Township communications with robust social media outreach to make vital information more accessible to constituents

  • Upgraded the Township’s GIS system to create efficiencies for both staff and the community in accessing geographic-based data for the Township

  • Hired first woman to serve as Township Manager

  • Enhanced citizen engagement by standardizing the volunteer board and commission bylaws, formalizing the role of the Board liaison, and recruiting new members to these volunteer positions
